Do you remember the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel?

In 1 Kings 18, God is about to show Israel that He is the one true God.

But before He sends fire down from heaven to consume the sacrifice, something happens; the people are told to fill four jars with water and pour them on the altar.

“Do it a second time.”

So they went back and got more water. And as soon as they did pour it on again,

Elijah says “Do it a third time”.

At this point, there is so much water poured on, it says that the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water.

Now, if you were standing there at that time you might would have wondered “why all this water? I thought it was supposed to be consumed by fire, not by water”. You probably wouldn’t have been the only one with these thoughts.

So why all the water?

If you continue reading the chapter you know that Elijah prays to God and He sends fire down on the altar and consumes all of the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the water!

Most people would agree that fire coming down from the sky and burning up a sacrifice would be enough proof that God is the one true God.

So why the water?

The water poured onto the altar was to display God’s power at a even greater degree. It was to make the task even more difficult for man.

But Elijah’s faith wasn’t in man; it was in the all-powerful God. All the glory went to God because of the impossibility.

What does that mean for us?

Recently, there have been several things that have been adding up that makes doing the World Race even more difficult in the eyes of man.

I need to have over $17,000 by July 2016. Several of the deadlines are rapidly approaching and I feel like there are more and more things adding up, like jar after jar of water being poured out.

Am I not supposed to be doing this?

Should I just quit?

But I was reminded of what happened on Mount Carmel, I realized that often impossibility is an avenue in which God chooses to display greatness.

Easy isn’t necessarily the right way.

It made me think that sometimes God brings trials and challenges and allows certain things to come up that just make it seem impossible in our eyes.

He will provide.

He wants to take us to a point where we recognize our incapability and His awesome power.

He does that so that there is really only one true explanation…God came through.

I believe that God desires to display His provision in extraordinary ways to testify that He is love and powerful. He is the one true God.

Trust Him

So I have some good news: God’s got this! And whatever you may be facing right now that seems impossible, like an altar full of water, it isn’t too much for God.

He is more than able to provide and will do so in His timing. He just wants us to trust Him and present our requests to Him. And He will give us His peace, which surpasses all understanding, and it will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

So surrender it to Him and trust Him…He will come through!
