God used 6 South Koreans to be my first supporters for The World Race. A 21-year-old and five 12-year-old campers.
This past summer I had the privilege of leading a group of 8 great counsellors at a kid’s camp. My job was to make sure things were going smoothly and help them in difficult situations.
In my unit I had one South Korean counsellor named Sung-Min, who is a student at the Word of Life Bible Institute in upstate NY. This young man has a heart for God and it is evident by the way he lives his life. It was a great joy for me to see him grow and reach out towards his campers despite the language barriers with the American kids. But one of the last weeks of camp he has able to counsel five Korean campers.
Those Korean kids had come all the way from Korea for a week of camp and a few days of visiting the States. All five of them walked onto camp without knowing Christ as their Saviour but during the week they chose to follow God and trust in Christ as their personal Saviour. It was awesome to see them accept God’s gift of salvation. But what is even better than hearing someone confess this is to see fruit of it in their life. Well, I got to see fruit in their lives and here’s what happened:
On the last night of that week, Sung-Min unexpectedly received $20 from one of the kid’s parents but didn’t hold on to it long for he had chosen to give it to me to help support on my trip with The World Race. I wasn’t the only one that was impacted by his generosity or his faith, because later that night one of his campers saw him receive the $20 and asked him what he had done with it. After explaining to his campers why he chose to give it away and for what cause, the five Korean campers got together and collected whatever change they had left, brought $10 and said to their counsellor: “We want to give this money to that same guy you did because we want others around the world to hear about Jesus just as we have heard and now He has become our Saviour”.
I was completely overwhelmed by their willingness to give in order that other might receive what they had also received. $10 is not the most money I’ve received from someone but it wasn’t the money that overwhelmed me. It was their heart. Five 12-year-old Koreans who just recently got saved were already willing to give and were caring about people’s soul around the world. And they became aware of this because they saw their counsellor being an example.
It is very humbling to witness kids thinking about the world and willing to give the small amount they have for a greater cause. I wanted to tell everyone what I had just witness in these campers. I knew that God would multiply their gift. God had done something huge!
I knew at that very moment that God was confirming this call to go into the world and share the good news. Who would of thought that He would have used Korean kids to do so?
And that was just the beginning, ever since then I have received many donation and prayers from people who truly believe that God is going to do great things on this trip. What started with $30 has turned into $1,250. I learned something from those Koreans. I learned that genuine faith leads to action.
Are you a part of what God is doing around the world? If not, you can still do so by partnering with ministries and people that are working throughout that world. There are countless ministries working hard to win souls and I would encourage you to step out in faith by joining one. God is doing great things all over the world and it would be amazing if you were a part of it.
“God is looking for people through whom he can do the impossible – what a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.” (A.W. Tozer)
