Psalms 23

A psalm of David

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” NIV

I love this passage, it’s one of my moms favorites. The thing is I don’t remember hearing this passage until the week of 4th of July this past summer.

 I was on a YoungLife backpacking trip, this trip was a life changing experience and I got to share it with some amazing people, one of those amazing people being my dad. The Thursday of that week was my favorite day. They day before we had gotten up at 3 in the morning to peak the mountain and then walked till 3 that afternoon, when we finally stopped and set up camp. So that Thursday was a pretty easy day.

We were walking to a lake called Reagan lake and we were walking through a field and my dad told me that it reminded him of psalms 23. I disregarded what he had said until that night. They sent each of us out to camp by ourselves and gave us scripture to read. Psalms 23 was one of them. I read it and watched the sunset it was an amazing moment that I really needed. I had been searching for a better relationship with God, I wasn’t letting him take control over my life. That’s when I decided to let go and let God.

 As I go on the race this passage will always be in my head. Because he is my Shepard, he will guide me along the right path for his names sake, I will fear no evil when I walk through the darkest valley because I know that he is with me. He is in the drivers seat leading me where he wants me to go. One of my friends once said my life is a story and he is the editor, the only one that can change it.
