On this trip I have read multiple books by Francine Rivers. The latest one I’ve read is a voice in the wind.

This book is about a young Christian girl, named Hadassah, in Roman times. She gets labeled as a Jew after the fall of Jude’s and eventually becomes a servant for the family.

She never outright speaks about Jesus to her masters. She sings them psalms and them parables but never speaks his name.

When one of her masters finds out she’s a Christian, he starts asking her a bunch of questions. He was trying to prove to her that the Invisible god she prays to isn’t real and that the Roman gods will provide for her more than her god will. When he asked if God spoke to her she responded with a story in the Bible where an individual heard God speak through the wind. A voice in the wind.

At one point Hadassah is faced with death if she doesn’t declare her faith to a Roman god instead the God of the Jews. Her biggest fear is death and in that moment she proclaims to the group of people a statement that proves she is a Christian.

For a while I found myself living like Hadassah, singing his praises and telling his stories. I was bit firm in my faith only speaking of him when asked about him and within my group/community of friends that I knew where Christians. I didn’t defend his names when arguments and discussions happened in school or at work.

When I was accepted to this trip, I had to step up before the world and declare my faith. I wasn’t faced with death. I was faced with a large amount of money to raise, possible ridicule for taking a year off of school and the looming question of “is she really to going to go on this trip?” I’ve grown so much because of this step of faith.

Jesus is so much more than a voice in the wind and he has made you and I so much more than that as well

I am a voice in the wind
I am his daughter
I am loved by him
I am a disciple of the nations
I am a kingdom shaker
