Today is Sunday, December 17th 2017. I am currently sitting on a couch in the Valle de Angeles, Honduras. At 8:30pm my squad leader Drea sat us all down to tell us that Honduras finally picked a president. The president thats not wanted by many. The president that most of the country is fighting against. Honduras has been in turmoil over this election since the moment my squad got to Honduras. There have been curfews set, tires burned, protests and riots, and yelling to go against the curfew. Don’t worry my squad and I are safe and sound at Hope at Hand.
I firmly believe that my squad is here because Honduras needs prayers. The amount of people who know what is happing here is very small. So my squads prayers may be what the country needs. Jesus may have sent my squad here to roll yarn, just so we can be here and pray.
Tonight my squad-mates and I are being prayer warriors. From 9pm to 7am we will be in constant prayer for the country and its people. We are taking hour long shifts and each hour a different need is prayed for. I will be up at 4 am to spend my hour of prayer in worship for the country I currently call home.
So our night started at 9pm with an hour of worship. It was the hardest hour of worship I have ever been apart of, but it was also one of the best. I experienced an immense amount of spiritual darkness in this time; more than I did my first two weeks in Cambodia. I am going to sleep now (it’s 10:30pm) but my next part of my blog is about my 4am hour of prayer.
So I got my times mixed up. The worship hour was from 3-4am. I went from 4-5am. I ended up praying for redemption and salvation for those in the government. It could have been a human mistake of God could’ve needed me there in that hour.
In all honesty I had absolutely no clue what to pray about. NO CLUE. I was lost. So I decided to read. I was lead to the book of Lamentations and read the whole book. (It’s only 5 chapters) This book of the Bible is about a city that has gone through destruction and didn’t survive. It freaked me out because I thought that was what was going to happen to Honduras. My prayers quickly became that God wouldn’t allow this to happen to Honduras.
Upon later reflection it was revealed to me that God has a plan for Honduras. And that plan might be to stay in turmoil for a while. Sad thought yes I know. But Jesus can use this turmoil to show that his love will endure forever and that nothing can stop him. HIS LIGHT WILL ALWAYS SHINE IN THE DARKNESS.
That next morning. Monday morning to be exact. I woke up and walked out of my room to see a wall covered with prayers, declarations, and paintings. There had been some when I had gone to bed but know the wall has even more.
There has been a sense of peace at Hope at Hand now. It has been raining for a few days and someone said that Jesus may have sent the rain to stop more burning of tires. And I’m choosing to believe that it’s true. I honestly have no clue what is happening in the country right now. I have no data to check online, we are not allowed into town to get wifi (as of Wednesday we can), and the whole county speaks Spanish (WHICH I DONT UNDERSTAND) so I can’t listen to the news. But I am okay with not knowing because I know that Jesus has a plan for Honduras, that he will provide for them, and that his light will shine through the darkness!
Also on another note… my teammates Drew and Lexi are still fundraising for the World Race. They have until January 29th. If you’d like to donate or know more about them check out their blogs. I also write a blog about them called “My sisters Drew & Lex” go check it out if you haven’t already
