Hello from Guatemala!

Today, we went to a place called the safe house. This is basically similar to what we would call “juvie”. We were told about 8 hours before that we were supposed to plan things for 2 hours (worship, testimony, preaching, and an activity). We had one of our girls give her testimony, which was so good because it was something that these girls would be able to relate to.

While doing the activity we planned- there was a girl named Maggie, and she spoke English. She had lived in Texas for 9 years, but came back to Guatemala to be with her birth mom. She was saying that she doesn’t like God, but that she appreciates that we have come to talk to her and the girls there. However, she was telling me and Kate that she is angry with God because of what has happened to her in her past regarding abuse. I told her that God lived and her she said she didn’t believe that because she has done bad things in her past. We also talked about how she didn’t want to share with us about her past, because she would be embarrassed and cry. Then I explained that I used to feel that way about crying too, but had recently learned that crying doesn’t make you weak but it displays strength and that when you hold in your emotions it make it hard for you to be truly happy. So I asked her do you want to be happy? She replied by saying yes but not with God. I asked her how is she going to be happy then? And she replied by saying I don’t want to talk about it. Kate and I assured her that the Lord loves her far more than she could ever understand.

So many people seek happiness in so many different things, but true happiness and joy comes from the Lord.

If you could join me in prayer for Maggie and the rest of the girls in the safe house that would be greatly appreciated.

I also need $200 more until I will have reached my fundraising goal for Guatemala! Thank you for your prayers and support!
