Hello from Bolivia! Here’s a funny blog that sums up some of the Race thus far.
1. You get sent to the the Amazon Jungle in Bolivia (or the jungle in Thailand)
2. You have no running water
3. You have to put chlorine in your yellow drinking water
4. You have no mirror
5. You wash your clothes in the shower
6. Your ministry is moving trees that they cut down so they could put in electricity (which they’ve never had)
7. You have about one hour of electricity from a generator each night
8. You harvest rice
9. You eat rice just about every meal
10. You talk about poop pretty often
11. You live in a room with a dirt floor
12. You put your sleeping pad on your bed because it’s hard as a rock
13. You live with chickens, pigs, mice, ducks, or goats
14. You paint a school
15. You can sleep just about anywhere
16. You crave sugar/chocolate/pizza at least once a day
17. You eat strange meat
18. You put salt on every food item on your plate (Andre)
19. You don’t shower as much as you would at home
20. The skin under your nails is always dirty
21. It’s a beautiful thing to find a dryer
22. You teach English just about every month (if not to a class to someone)
23. Your team becomes a worship band
24. You miss air conditioning/fans
25. You can’t sleep because you are constantly scratching your mosquito bites
26. You apply deodorant more times than necessary because it’s so hot, or you’ve just stopped wearing it
27. When you’re trying to save a pigs life by praying for it to be pregnant (also the pig is your housemate)
28. You’d rather sleep in your hammock outside than in your bedbug infested bed
29. You’re not sure you’ll be able to get to the next country because the river is too high to travel out of the village
30. You take lots of naps
31. You start wearing clothes for longer periods of time (who even needs clean clothes?)
32. You sleep in multiple airports
33. You ride a 13-15 hour bus just to get to your ministry site
34. You have been to several airports in a matter of a few days
35. Going through airport security is a piece of cake
36. You want to save/feed all of the stray dogs (at least I do)
37. You read a lot of books and listen to podcasts/sermons (if you know of any sermons you think I should listen to I’d love some suggestions)
38. You read your Bible all the time
39. You find yourself praying for simple things like chocolate or pineapple
40. Jesus has completely changed your perspective on how to live your life and further the Kingdom
