The past week here in the Dominican has been admittedly slow. Monday was set aside as Sabbath and we all thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate our souls for the week to come. On Tuesday our whole squad spent the day in Santiago seeing monuments and museums and eating street food. Wednesday and Thursday were hurricane days where the whole squad hunkered down while Hurricane Maria blew through the DR. I have never been trapped in a hurricane before and I must say it was quite the experience. While ministry has been slow and weather has been gloomy, I have had to dig deep in finding moments to celebrate. Here is a list of everyday celebrations that I have had this week.

Yay God for…

empanadas and street food

beach balls and rock paper scissors

beautiful city views

Fanta and Milky Way bars

Running water

Hammock naps

Tía Elva and her hot chocolate

Sweet smiles on the street

Cornbread

Prayer walks

Late night worship

Ask me about all of these “yay God” moments because there is a sweet story that goes with each one. Not everyday will bring outstanding revelations, but the Lord brings us into everyday celebrations. The Race is continuing to open my eyes to these moments and the joy that comes with truly living in a spirit of celebration.

God, Thank you so much for the moments we get to celebrate everyday. I pray that You would open our eyes to moments like these and change our hearts so we would become people of celebration no matter the circumstances. Cast away the earthly view we have on the world and help us to see how You see. Use us to be vessels of joy. Amen.
