Committing to serve on the World Race requires you to identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you may face your fears. As human beings we naturally try to skirt past our weakness, choosing to focus on our strengths. Maybe this is because if we don’t draw attention to our weaknesses, we may appear as flawless. Maybe our weaknesses can’t be ‘fixed’. Maybe it will be hard. Regardless of the reason, humans are flawed, you are flawed, I am flawed and we are flawed. So, it only makes sense that God created humans with the purpose of being flawed. He made each and every one of us with flaws yet he loves us as if we were flawless. We were created perfect in his image.

Psalm 18:30 says, As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.

His way is perfect, He didn’t make a mistake when he created the heavens and earth, He didn’t mess up when he created you and me. He made each of us flawed so that there is no perfect human. So the weaknesses are perfect in Gods eyes. My weaknesses include: fear of spiders (insects), change, heights, making the wrong choice, letting my family down, failing and swallowing pills.

I am working to overcome each of these fears, some are easier than others like my fear of spiders and swallowing pills. **I successfully swallowed 4 tick-tacks!! This is a huge accomplishment for me, I have been getting ‘the look’ from pharmacist’s for years when I ask them how much liquid children’s medicine I should be taking at 6’3 and 23 years-old.** Other fears are going to be a life-long battle. It helps to know that I am not alone, God didn’t only create me with these fears, there are others that struggle with the same fears as well, socially we just don’t talk about them.

Strengths are a whole other topic. Humans are more than willing to talk about their own and others strengths. I am proud of my strengths, but they were not always strengths. At one time each and every one of these were weaknesses. I think it is important to remember we are constantly changing and adapting to our lives, we are put in situations that challenge our comfort zones and force us to face our fears. So while I am proud to say some of my strengths include optimism, being able to point out the little things, making someone smile, encouraging others, loyalty and adapting to whatever life throws at me. I am also proud of my weaknesses.
