With my time in the U.S. dwindling I thought I would make a list to help my organized mind handle some processing. This list is a little different; I have discovered some items that I am going to miss. These items are beyond my family, air-conditioning and a bed; I found small items I often overlook be some of the things I cherish the most.
- Ice. I love the idea of having a really cold glass of water or ice in pretty much any drink that I have. Due to various standards of water around the world having ice over the next year will be a rarity if I get it at all.
- A Couch. Sometimes I just want to plop on a couch and lay. I may even sleep on the couch instead of my bed because it can be so comfy. For the next year all I can guarantee is my blow up mattress, which I am praying never gets a hole!
- Walking bare foot. One of my favorite things to do is walk without shoes on. I love to feel the grass between my toes, the dirt under my feet and the hot pavement as you jump across. Who knows maybe this will happen?
- Green! Living in the Midwest seeing green all around is normal. The trees are green, the grass is green, bushes, plants, flowers are all green. And I like it!
- Cutting the grass While I love helping with the chores that come with owning a home (not), my favorite is cutting the grass. There is something about the smell of the grass and flowers that just has me so relaxed. I love that I can be in my own world going back and forth or if I am feeling creative I could make a design in the grass, although, I don’t think my dad would think it is quite as pretty as me. Cutting the grass gives my mind the freedom to think about nothing and everything at the same time, for the music to take over in my ears and feel the sun on my skin.
- Driving This is one of my favorite things. I love going on long drives, driving through neighborhoods, getting lost and finding my way back. Without even realizing I can drive for hours with the windows down and music playing. I am hoping my love for driving transfers to a love for LONG bus/truck/other rides that I can guarantee are in my future.
- Leg Room Having long legs in not uncommon in my family, we tend to have a little less room in cars and on planes than most people. We prefer a deeper couch so we can sit comfortably, I have always had to order my pants online or buy regular length pants, which I then wear as capri pants. America is full of luxury for those with long legs, and I have definitely taken advantage of those freedoms. Just yesterday while sitting on a boat cruise the woman in front of me sat in her white lawn chair and it pushed back into my knees. I leaned forward and asked her if she would pull her chair up. In America this isn’t uncommon, but I know around the world my height will make me stand out, I will have to learn to be squished and deal with my legs being trapped in all different situations. Right about now I wish my legs were shorter, even thinking about it.
I know I have missed many others however, living for the Kingdom is all worth it. God is preparing the way planting seeds that I will encounter and hopefully I will be able to add fertilizer or water to those seeds so that they will grow. Giving up the luxuries and things for a bigger purpose is why I have been called.
For the first 6 weeks I will be on a social media fast, so this blog is the best way to keep track of me! Please press subscribe so you know exactly what is going on!!
