Yesterday, Sunday October 8th V squad ventured out from Antigua Guatemala, at 4am with the destination of Honduras. Soul Spark traveled separate in a van because we were headed closer to the coast than the rest of the squad. When we started our trek, we were under the impression that the drive would take 15 hours. Turns out when your driver doesn’t know what brakes are or how to gradually enter a turn you make it to Choloma Honduras in 9 hours!!

Who cares that I didn’t sleep at all on the ride or that the ride felt more like a 9-hour abs workout. (God what are you trying to tell me?)

Regardless of the amount of time it took to arrive we got here safely and in one piece! Pastor Gregorio took us to his home up and down many hills, over potholes until you reach the final hill down to the family front gate. The family has been so gracious, making us feel welcome and part of the family. We are super lucky to have mattress’ to sleep on this month! All 7 of us fit very snug into the room (our Alumni Squad Leader Allison is with us for the first 2 weeks of our stay) and still manage to squeeze 3 fans in with us.

One thing you should know about Honduras is it is definitely in Central America, and Central America is definitely hotter than Chicago, Guatemala and El Salvador! We are currently living in a heat wave where it feels like 110 degrees with the heat index. Based on the weather prediction it should change to typical tropical weather of 88 degrees tomorrow, so cross your fingers!!!

I can already tell you this month I will be pressing into God to help me through the heat, and feeling uncomfortable. When I get hot I know I start complaining even more than I already do (sorry Soul Spark!) but I want to work at this. I don’t need to be in comfort in order to serve the Lord; he pushes me out of my comfort zones so that I may learn to lean on him. This morning for example we went to the house that is sponsored by His Hands for Honduras where we sat with a lot of kids who receive daily meals, education and basic medical care from the organization. I had the chance to jump into the kitchen and help prepare the food for the afternoon group of kids. This made me so excited!!!! I love being able to help in the kitchen; it reminds me of helping my dad in the kitchen and food. I just love food. After the kids ate breakfast we got to play with the kids at the church.

This is what our daily ministry will look like, serving food to the kids every morning and playing with them. We will also have church five nights of the week, where we will prepare ‘something’ each night. This could look like a song, dance, or a bible story in English. As of right now we do not know what else we will be doing but we know God has so much planned for us this month.

Honduras we are SO EXCITED for you to show your beauty and personality!

Yes this is one of Pastor Gregorio’s ducks, Victoria, Rachael and Grace!

Holding a duck was on my bucket list, now I just need one of them to like being pet by me!
