You are most welcome.
We arrived in Nkhotakota, Malawi to find wonderful accommodations situated on a large plot of land, complete with (as our hosts called it) a ‘lagoon’. Timothy Harvest Ministries aims at discipling people within their communities, and planting churches. Our ministry varied, but included playing with children, door to evangelism, leading Bible studies, and speaking at churches. It was a month full of growth, great fellowship, and laughter. Here are some of the highlights and ways I truly felt welcomed in Malawi:
Dinner: It is customary for men and women to eat separately (men at the table, women on the floor) in Africa. We always shared meals with our interpreters (who also lived on site), our contact, and some of the other men who worked on the grounds. The first couple nights we all ate at two separate tables; however we quickly asked if we could push all the tables together and eat family style. We had a blast sharing stories, riddles, and games at meals together. Meals were some of my favorite times in Malawi. I felt very welcomed into the THM family.
Door to door: The days we did door to door ended up being some of my favorites. We went into the surrounding villages to share the Gospel with predominintly Muslim populations. This involved us walking through the village, finding someone at home, and being welcomed us to sit under their tree. Not only would they allow us to share our stories with them, but would even give up their chairs, or places on the mat to provide us with a place to sit. They welcomed us, gave up their space for us, and listened to what we had to share.
Thomas & Tapiwa: Our interpreters/brothers. Thomas and Tapiwa went EVERYWHERE with us. They deserve medals for putting up with us for an entire month. These two are hilarious. They made us feel at home, and were always around to make sure were getting the best prices in town.
Space: The grounds we lived on in Nkhotakota were huge. We had so much room to run around, exercise, or just find some alone space. I loved having time and space to draw near to God. This was a month of growth for me in my walk, and I am so thankful for the way God has drawn closer to me!
These are just a few pieces of month 3. Overall Africa has been a dream come true! I love it here and I am so thankful for the opportunity to live here for 2 months. Thank you so much for your prayers. Please continue to pray for energy and strength as we continue this journey together! Much love and many blessings,
Emma
