Malaysia has been incredible so far. We had an amazing debrief on Pangkor Island (Jesus definitely rocked my world), Sarah White was added to my team, and our ministry contact is absolutely incredible. I’ve spent the last week working at a kindergarten/pre-school next to our house, caring for 5 boys who need a lot of specialized attention. Really, I’ve just been blown away by what Jesus has been teaching me this month already and how He’s been teaching me about serving and loving others. In that, He has brought me a joy and new eyes.
This is one of the months where we have to be super careful about what we say and do because:
- Christian ministry in Malaysia is completely illegal
- our contact has spent several years in this area building groundwork and trust with the predominantly Muslim population
While the Lord has blessed our time here thus far, my team and our contact need some hefty prayers.
This morning, our contact got a call from the home owners association where he has our team living (next to the kindergarten). One of our neighbors reported him to the HOA for bringing in Americans to preach about Jesus.
If our contact gets investigated, the government will close down his kindergarten. It could also mean putting him and his family at risk. They’re already looked down on because they’re Indian’s (think segregation/apartheid), and have fewer rights than those of Malay descent.
Please keep our contact, his family and the 2 teams here in your prayers. Pray for peace. Pray for protection. Pray for the glory of God. Pray for wisdom. Most of all, pray against fear.
We serve a great big God. His glory is undeniable and unable to be defeated. This news is not a cause for fear, but a cause for boldness in prayer.
May His peace abound in all of our lives,
Emma
