On October 9th 2015th, I stumbled upon a blog post on Facebook entitled, “what if I’m Pretty?” Posted by a woman who is currently on the World Race.
Immediately interested I clicked on the link and read her post. As I was reading, I felt every word jump off the page and leap into my heart.
Lacy’s post opens with a Nepali shopkeeper calling her “very fat” as though it is the one thing that defined her is and what made her less “acceptable and good” in his eyes. Lacy says that she defaults to being apologetic and hurt about her size.
Ultimately, the tone of the article changed….
She says “What if I am beautiful?” “Like…what if I’m creative & created by the most creative Creator; a beautiful creation.” The article ends by her stating that she is a masterpiece because she was beautifully and perfectly created in the image of God.
I don’t know the woman who posted this article, but I do know that her words resonated deeply within me.
We live in a world with unrealistic standards of beauty and I am constantly bombarded with the many ways in which I fail to Achieve this standard.
If I was only thinner, If I only had fuller lips and clearer skin and smaller thighs…Then the world will accept me and view me as beautiful and worthy.
But what if I’m beautiful too?
Perfectly created by a perfect creator in an imperfect world.
Made for a purpose
Designed to glorify Him
So every time I look in a mirror and immediately pick out a flaw, I think of Lacy’s wise words about our creator and how He doesn’t make mistakes.
In preparation for the world race this coming August, I am focusing on His word and discovering who He wants be to be instead of listening to the world’s opinion.
