Hello friends, family and people who clicked on the link!
I didn’t want to make this information public until everything was taken care of and settled. Prior to being accepted on the race I had signed a lease for next year, but in order to go on the race I needed to sublease my apartment! For those of you who have ever subleased you know how difficult it can be to find someone to sublet.
I started my search in the middle of January and have been posting my advertisement everywhere. From the get-go I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do this alone, and that I would need to give it to God and ask as many people as possible to be praying over the situation. And let me tell ya, I have some prayer warriors in my community. It took a while, but finally the Lord placed someone in my life to sign my lease for next year!!! It was a brutal three months but I’m glad that it’s over with so I can get started on the real challenge ahead of me.

I was hesitant to start sending out letters and starting the process as I wasn’t sure that I would get the lease signed. But now that it’s happened, I need to raise $15,800! My first deadline is June 22, and by then I need to have raised at least $5,000! I plan to treat fundraising the same way I did finding a sublet; with persistence, prayer, and patience. The money I fundraise will go towards my lodging, meals, ministry, and transportation.
But what am I fundraising for? What really is the World Race? Who is Adventure in Missions? Adventures in Missions is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. Since established in 1989, they have taken over 100,000 people into the mission field, some for as short as a week and others for as long as a year or longer. The World Race has an 11 countries in 11 months program and a 3-4 countries in 9 months called the World Race: Gap Year Program. During each of these programs participants will travel around the world seeking to evangelize in the communities that they visit, complete any projects that they may be given by the mission hosts (which will be unknown until they arrive), and build a community with the people they meet and with each other. During the Gap Year Program I will be going with 49 others that are 18-20 years old, where we will visit Swaziland, India, Nepal, and Guatemala over the span of nine months (September 2018-June 2019). We will live out of backpacks and live like locals while spreading the gospel!
If you’d be interested in donating online you can do so, actually right here on my blog! (Scroll up and you can click the orange “Donate!” button). You can also do it via check by mail, (the mailing address is 6000 Wellspring Trail, Gainesville, GA 30506 and it can be written out to Adventures in Missions, and in the memo line write “World Race [Emily Olsen]”).
I plan on sending out a formal support letter sometime in the near future, but if you’d be interested in hearing more about the race and how I’m preparing feel free to email me at [email protected] and I’d be happy to share! It’s gonna be a wild ride the next few months preparing but I’m excited for what the Lord has in store and to share it all with you!
