Covered in cow poop, foot throbbing from dropping the wheelbarrow full of rocks and dirt on it , listening to popular American songs in Spanish, a random horse runs by unattended..I cannot help but laugh and smile as I dig dirt and throw it into a wheelbarrow.

The world race is much bigger than myself. It’s a bunch of silly, crazy, random experiences. The DR locals laugh at us constantly. We communicate through smiles, laughs, pointing and thumbs up. No joke, sometimes I’ve felt like I was playing a game of charades trying to get them to guess what I needed in the colmados—  you do what you gotta do.

The world race is unpredictable. Ministry has many shapes and forms. This month, we helped out our host family with their property through manual labor, we taught English in a school, we helped Noni— their friend— build a home for his family, and prayed a ton as a squad. We took communion every week, we fasted, we played and danced in the rain.

Meals consisted of cornmeal & oatmeal, mystery meat (most likely spam), rice & beans, bread on bread, sponge cake, eggs, pieces of bright yellow cheese and hot chocolate. Side note: hot chocolate was always served for dinner with a piece of bread.

Fun fact: there had been a four month drought here, and the day we got here we prayed for rain and it has basically rained every day since, crazy right? God is cool like that.

So here’s the explanation behind why I was covered in cow poop in case you were wondering…

We had to carry wheelbarrows full of dirt/ rocks across the street and down to this cliff/ hill thing to dump it out. Well, at this little slanted part of the ground I decided I was gonna take it easy, but the wheels had another plan.

The wheels got slick from cow poop, so I lost balance of the wheelbarrow and it fell on my foot and I fell into the cow poop… like all the way in.

My poor foot was bruised really bad for 2 weeks, all blue and purple and my shorts have poop stains, but I’m glad I got back up because it made me laugh. That moment was far from glamorous!

I know there are going to be so many non-glamorous moments while I’m on the race. This life isn’t about me; it’s about God and making Him known. The stains will help remind me of that! Also the bruises and blisters help too.

We leave for Haiti on the 13th, yay!!
