My name is Emily Hurley and I’m 23 years old. I was born and raised in Sulphur Springs, Texas (a small-ish town about an hour east of Dallas) **but we just got a Starbucks and Chick-fil-a sooo we’re, like, a COOL small town**. I am the youngest of three children. My parents, Tommy and Denise, are absolute rockstars who raised three hilarious children (I’m the funniest and everybody will admit it). But they didn’t stop there, they are living out Mark 10:16 through foster parenthood and it has been an absolute PRIVILEGE to witness them become vessels of God’s love to children who are not even their own. My oldest sister, Macy, is a soccer coach and teaches middle school math. God bless her. And my brother, Bo, is currently living the best possible life in Colorado working at a ski resort.
A little bit about my personality and hobbies, I love exercising, live music, exploring, coffee, animals, making playlists, painting, cooking and spending quality time with my cat, Peaches. My Meyer’s Briggs is an EXFP and my enneagram is type 7 (the enthusiast). I love to laugh and I love making people laugh. I love change and I love doing, seeing and trying new things! I am fluent in movie quoting. And I prefer to do life improvising and just straight up “winging it”.
I was led to the World Race by three of my former roommates, they had all went on the World Race a couple years ago and I always loved hearing their stories about how God moved in and through them. I loved to hear them speak about their experiences, but missions wasn’t anything I thought I would be called to do (HA!). But God is funny, and in the last few months He has been revealing to me HIS dreams for my life and my purpose for His kingdom. The day I finally realized what He was calling me to, I ran into one of my roommates who is a WR alumni and that’s when I knew that this was the platform He is providing me to say YES and AMEN to His call. I am SO excited to see how God absolutely wrecks my life. I hope to be nothing but a vessel, I hope to be able to show love and personify love in such a way that there is no denial that My God is real and good and kind and sovereign.
Please pray for me and my team, as we are leading up to our launch in January and also throughout all of 2020. Pray that our hearts are tuned to His will for us and our ears are tuned to His voice. Pray that we allow our hearts to be moved and broken for the unreached and that we always remember how lucky we are to share His name and love with those who have never known it. Pray for our health and safety and that God uses us in incredible ways!
