Next summer, I will be going on a month long trip to Zambia. This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I wanted to tell a little bit about why I want to go. About four years ago, the summer before my freshman year of high school, I first went to a camp called Salkehatchie. For three years in middle school, I had heard my youth group leader say nothing but good things about the camp, so when I was finally old enough, I took a chance on it. Every year on the week of the Fourth of July, Foothills Salk is held in Pendelton and consists of about 100 teenagers working on the homes of people who cannot afford to have someone else fix them. This one week changed my life. I met so many people that love me so well and show me the love of God continually, even throughout the year after everyone has gone home. It showed me the passion that I have for those less fortunate than myself, and showed me that little people can make a huge difference in someones life. I want to go to Africa so that I can not only bless others, but so that I can be blessed by their hearts as well.
