Since my last update, a lot has happened! Here’s a scrapbook of what we’ve been up to the last month.
Disclaimer: We are very careful with wearing masks and social distancing! Anytime we are pictured without masks, we are either at home with people we live with, or out in the open with no one else around 🙂
Our team was joined by another World
Race squad for almost two weeks!
We started attending the local church
across the street from us! It’s been such
a sweet connection for our team.
For our next adventure day, we got
to bike down the runway of an old
airport!
Debrief! Midway through our trip, we take
a small break to reflect on what we’ve done
and prepare for the second half of the trip.
We debriefed at the Coast and had lots
of adventures! Exploring, hiking, swimming,
and resting in between. Debrief was a really
interesting time for us to reflect and hear
from God before returning to ministry for
another month and a half!
After debrief, ministry looked like cracking
nuts at Camp Hope…
…And painting rooms at Casa Blanca
Our next adventure day brought us to the
Hot Springs!
Here’s a majestic photo of our host Fabi!
Our last day at Camp Hope. Camp Hope
was our first ministry, and a really good
opportunity for our team to learn how to
do ministry behind the scenes. Extremely
grateful for our time here.
Our sweet Cayden got baptized!
What a joy it was to be a part of
this moment with her.
Bittersweet times as we said
goodbye to Casa Blanca and
“Funky David.”
But said hello to our new ministry where
we learned to care for 8,000 tomato plants.
Other than the green house, our ministry at
Dunamis was to spend time with young girls
who had been rescued from human trafficking.
This was an extremely heavy time. These sweet
girls were such a joy to dance with and laugh
with, but it only made the goodbyes that much
harder. I’m so proud of their strength, and so
thankful for the work that Dunamis does.
The transition to our next ministry was broken
up by an adventure day where we swung off
the edge of the mountain! Grateful for this day
and the joy it brought after such a hard week.
(We went to a coffee shop this day and if you
know me you know what that means to me)
Now we’re at El Refugio, where we get some
of the most incredible views I’ve ever seen!
El Refugio is a ministry that focuses on using
outdoor activities to build community and
spread the gospel. It challenges me physically
every day but I love it!
Cutting trails with the best
You just don’t really understand the
World Race obsession with peanut butter
until you’ve experienced it. It’s a problem.
We decided to hike the Perimeter
at 4 in the morning, and catch the
sunrise! We took it really slow and
had a blast on the way up, stopping
a ton to take these stunning photos.
Group photo once we all got to the top! It was cloudy but that’s okay.
And that about brings us up to where I am now! What an incredible trip it has been so far. I had no idea what to expect from this trip, going out into the world during a pandemic. But this experience has been far more than I could have ever anticipated and I plan to make these last two weeks truly count.
If you stuck around to the end, here’s a bonus picture of Cayden and I after we made mac and cheese that we were really proud of!
