I had the opportunity to be interviewed for a podcast and it was just released last week! In it, I bring up things that I’ve been trained to believe as an athlete that aren’t true. Those things not only pertain to the sport industry but also to most of our lives in a Western society. Give it a listen to hear how I’m learning to combat these things with truth found in Scripture.

Ps. The best nugget is at the end of the podcast

Below are the notes I took into the interview:

What I’ve been believing:

  1. The harder you work the better the results.

-Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith this is not your own doing but is the free gift of God so that no one may boast”

-Exodus 14:14 “the Lord will fight for you, you have only to be silent.”

  1. Weakness is a flaw.

-2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

  1. Look to your left, look to your right, now do better, go faster, go harder than those people next to you.

-comparison game, creates a super unhealthy, competitive environment

-1 Corinthians 3:8-9 “The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building”

  1. If you’re broken push through, if you can’t push through then we don’t need you; you are replaceable.

-Pertains to our identity, believing the lie that God does not want/need us if we are capable of doing something worthy of being needed, if we don’t bring something to the table

  1. If you want to get noticed, do something noticeable.

-Matthew 6:18 “and your Father who sees what is done is secret will reward you”

  1. Success yields happiness.

-Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forever more.”

-1 Thess 2:20 “For you are our glory and joy”
