Fundraising so far has been…well, best described by the picture above! When I first began brainstorming ideas on how to raise over $18 thousand dollars, I knew there would be no way to do it without God. If you didn’t know, college students don’t make much money, especially if you’re a student athlete and can’t have a job…so the journey of raising money has begun. We’re a few months underway and at $4,360 to date. Thank you to everyone who has generously donated already! I am so thankful for each and every one of you.
What has fundraising thus far looked like? Well, with the perks of having no class on Thursday’s this semester I’ve been committing these days to “outreach days” aka following God to wherever, whoever, whatever to share what God is doing in my life and to offer prayer to anyone I come in contact with. Let’s just say each week when Thursday’s roll around I find myself battling the temptation to just stay home and relax instead of put in the work with God to raise money.
I’ve experienced some intense new things…for example, I now understand what spiritual warfare is. Not just what it is but what it feels like too. In addition, I’m learning what it feels like to follow the Spirit. Still trying to figure this one out! Lastly learning that putting God and His Kingdom before raising money is priority.
Over the course of the last couple of Thursday’s, God has done some wild things. In a nut shell, I’ve become over-the-phone friends with the owner of Home Depot in Austin. I’ve called her so many times I think they have my number memorized. I also made friends with the Chaplin at Austin Heart Hospital who happens to be from Indianapolis, IN!! We are now praying for each other for the next year as she works in her mission field at the hospital and as I prepare to go out on missions in the 10/40 window. There’s also the secretary at the psychiatrist’s office who I get to pray for each week. I also have the opportunity to share my story with the psychiatrist himself next month! And so many more people who I’ve been able to meet face-to-face or have conversation with over the phone.
Right now in the midst of continuing this season of fundraising, I am learning that even when you don’t “see” things happening with your eyes, God is still there and He is answering. Right now with our eyes we see 23.32% of the goal met at $4,360. But I chose to trust that God is here and He is raising the other 76.68%. Continue praying and trusting in God with me.
