The world race is crazy. We have already gotten chances to go on wild adventures, love on truly hundreds of children, and had opportunities to share Jesus in all different ways.

But sometimes I can’t help but think, couldn’t I be doing something more? Shouldn’t I be doing bigger, better things?

These were the thoughts running through my mind and running rampant on the pages of my journal this past week.

Monday morning. 51 racers gathered together, after our staple corn flakes, cane sugar and shelf milk breakfast, to pray and listen to where the Holy Spirit was leading us for ministry that day. I watched as God began leading my squad mates to all different areas of our small community. Some felt led to take a kombi (a bus of sorts) to the grocery store where they were able to have amazing conversations with locals, venders and even some police officers, some went on prayer walks, some spent time serving our squad, but as for me, God simply began bringing me to Bible passages. Matthew 11:25, here, Jesus is thanking His Father for the way He revealed things to the little children and hid them from the wise. Next, I came to Matthew 10:42- ”And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is my  disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” One simple thought kept repeating in my head, “It’s not about the big important things. It’s the little things I’ve called you to.”

Later while I was sitting in our very multipurpose living room /dining room /spare bedroom, Emma came running up to me.

“Do you want to go to a girl’s house?”

She continued to explain to me the few details she had. This girl had come up to Emma asking her to walk her home. Other then that we had no other details.

Okay God, the little things.

We grabbed Jordan and a couples guys to come with us so we wouldn’t get kidnapped, and off we went. Walking hand in hand with these two sisters down the dusty road.

Dripping in sweat, three miles later we reached the small home. Cautiously walking in, we were met by an obviously surprised mother at the sight of 5 white strangers in her house. Despite this, she was quick to offer us a seat with a kind, but weary smile on her face. Talking to her, we found out her husband was out of a job, and they were struggling to make ends meet. We then had the opportunity to encourage and pray for her and her family.

By the time we were leaving, it was easy to see this tired mom’s smile was a bit brighter and her spirit was lifted.

“That was so worth it,” Sam Van Dyke uttered as we began our long windy walk home. Sam was one of the boys we had begged to come with us in the beginning.

It was just a little thing.

We didn’t do anything so grand.

Yet God still used our little yeses in really big ways.

So here’s to leaning into many more small yeses and letting God handle the big work.

Love and miss all you guys so much <3
