Now begins my time of not having internet… I am only able to write
this to you all after a 20 minutes walk into town and at an internet
cafe. At least I hope this will, work I’m writing this tonight and
going to post it tomorrow morning.

We were supposed to leave Milimani Backpackers Hostel at 6am, but our
drivers didn’t show up. So the hostel gave us a few drivers and busses
and got us to the bus stop about 15 minutes before our bus left for
Busia. It was a 10 hour roller coaster ride to say the least and
WREAKED like body odor. I was very thankful to be in the very backseat
behind two clean Kenyans and surrounded by our girls. The ride was
bearable when we were sitting down, but when we stood up to go to the
restroom, it smelled so bad. Onismus, AIMs Kenyan contact, arranged for
us to have the nice bus ride, that actually stopped for bathroom stops
along the way and we had our own seats. We were able to drive along the
Kenyan countryside, almost all across Kenya, it was a great insight
into the country. We saw zebras, antelope, chickens, baboons walking by
the side of the road, cows and tons of people! The ride was the
bumpiest thing I’ve ever experienced, the people on the bus were
cracking up at us Mzungus in the back that were yelping every bump that
tossed us a foot off our seats haha.

Pastor Steve and Pastor Gidian picked us up at the bus stop in Busia. They said we brought the rains, which is a blessing in Africa, and it
was pouring rain. We are staying at Pastor Gidians house with his wife,
we all call “mama”. There are 6 of us staying in one room and a smaller
room to hold our things. There are chickens in the backyard that we
eat eggs from every morning, as well as a goat and a dog. There is a
chef that prepares our meals for us every day this week and is teaching
us how to cook the local meals, then we will be on our own. Chef Lucus
is the happiest little man I have ever met. He says he serves for his
Lord Jesus Christ and is happy because if he is then other people will
be happy like Christ, so awesome. We have homemade ‘chai’ every night
after dinner, while we watch hilarious African TV. It is basically one
TV show drama that is Telumundo overdubbed in English that lacks correct
inflection haha, I enjoy that particularly.
Today we went to the market to get our food and tomorrow we will go to
the farmers market to get fresh fruits and vegetables. The pineapple
here is INCREDIBLE, the best I’ve ever had, so sweet and juicy. I can’t
wait to try the other fruits! We also picked out some fabric and the
families seamstress is going to make us skirts, SO excited and they are
so cheap!! I can’t wait to see the church and to meet the family, we saw
some of the members at the market today. Gidian is an amazing pastor
with such a heart for the Lord. They say that Africa has faith a mile
wide an an inch deep. So Gidian is working on discipling people to know
the real Gospel and what Christ really calls from us.
We have no running water in this house either, btw. We use the toilet
outside, by squatting over a hole and we use buckets to brush our teeth
with in the dining room and we bathe using a large bucket in the shower
room that we get from the well outside, so awesome.

I love experiencing
these new cultures and ways of life. I am so grateful for what. Have
back home!
Alright, I’ve written so much. Hopefully I will be able to add some
videos we have taken from this place as well as some pictures.

Also, here is a video to show you what to be grateful for this morning 🙂 Oh, and the stick sticking in the toilet is to block the smells from coming out, but remove it to use the toilet.
