Well, I made it to training camp in one piece! The first step in this journey. I woke up at 4:30am, drove to Detroit, flew to Chicago, met up with some fellow racers who flew with me to DC, met up with the entire squad, rode a bus to the subway, rode the subway to another bus, and walked to the seminary that we are staying at in Virginia… phew! Coordinating the 50 or so of us on all of those busses, subways, walking, etc. was a trip, but Drew handled it smoothly! It was his first go as one of the two logistical leaders on our team.
The food at launch is nothing like training camp, fear not young racers! We happily accepted donations from Trader Joes and are eating like kings and queens out here, such a nice change of pace. We are, however, sleeping in our tents on the lawn, but not having to move them every night. There are 6 showers for our team, but from what I hear they are nice. We are the first squad in World Race history to have our launch location inside the US and I am THANKFUL! Not only are we getting awesome Trader Joes food, but we are able to drink the water from the faucet, not have to put our TP in the trash instead of flushing, etc. etc. etc.!
It is so great to be back with our team again, our family for the next year. The people on my squad are really exceptional, so great. Some amazing, on fire for God people that I am going to get the chance to build up in and learn from, to see God work through and to create some of the most experiences of my life with… I can’t wait!!
I also just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their support, mentally, physically and emotionally. It is because of all of you and your calls to the spirit that I have gotten to this point in the race. I am now a full time missionary for our Lord and cannot WAIT to see how He changes me this year, inside and out (although I’m not looking forward to getting, what we call on the WR ‘fluffy’ (gaining weight) that apparently happens to all women…). Also, I am now over my second fundraising goal, as some of you have seen on my home page. A few weeks before the due date I was at $6k and I couldn’t believe I made that deadline. Now, only a few weeks later, I am upwards of $11,000. You are amazing people that have blessed me so much. I am SO thankful for this opportunity to answer the Lord’s call and to be send into the world to proclaim the truth to the nations!! In less than a week I will be ministering to Busia, Kenya and it is because of you, so thank you 🙂
