Work on the farm is hard, hot and tiring, but on my day off Gianpaolo did not disappoint! On the way in I had told him how much I wanted to see the Amalfi Coast and he surprised us with a trip there last Saturday! He paid for our boat ride from Salerno to Amalfi and gave us a bag full of fresh cannolis and fruit for the trip. Chet and I walked around the town, saw the resting place for Saint Andrew and laid out under the Italian sun, in between swimming in the Mediterranean. The sun felt good, but I had to layer on sunblock because of the sunburn I had from working at the farm.
Tomorrow we go into work early, 7am, to water the Fiano vines and the next day we stay late to water. We can't water during the afternoon, because the sun is too hot and will burn the plants. Today we collected some honeycombs and are going to make honey tomorrow. Friday we are going to start brewing a Honey Ale and Sunday we are bottling wine! It's nice getting to the fun parts of the job, lately we have been mostly watering plants and weeding.
Well, happy 4th of July everyone back home! I 'celebrated' by eating watermelon and wearing some gaudy American Flag earrings all day. Chet doesn't celebrate holidays, so I was solo on this endeavor, but had fun rubbing it in and singing God Bless America throughout the day. I ate watermelon to celebrate America's independence, Chet ate watermelon.
Have a blessed 4th and enjoy Americana for me! Ciao!
