Well, this is embarrassing…
I wasn't able to start blogging because I could never figure out how to! I kept clicking on "Add a new article" on my blog page, but the internet we use was blocking me from getting to the blog page. Although, I never quite tried clicking on "New Post". This probably doesn't make sense to non-WRbloggers, but that's okay.
So anyways… I figured it out! Wahoo!!
Our training camp date was announced today, May 21-29. For some reason, having actual dates attached to our training camp and not just knowing it is going to be at the end of May makes it seem that much closer. I have to fundraise at least $3000 before that date?! Man oh man…
I've recently been sent 1,000 Threads of Hope (http://www.threadsofhope.com.ph/) bracelets that I will be selling to friends, family and people on the streets of Las Vegas with the help of friends. I'm going to be setting up a new bank account with Wells Fargo to keep all of the cash I will be getting for the bracelets and send the money all in with one bulk check, so no fees for using a credit card.
Threads of Hope is an incredible ministry! "Threads of Hope assists the economically oppressed in under-developed countries to establish home enterprises that will provide an income, through the development of products that can be sold world-wide. Funds generated through sales and donations will primarily be used to help meet the physical, educational and spiritual needs of the communities where the products are made." I encourage you to check out the website!
Apparently we MIGHT be helping out with a Threads of Hope site in the Philippines when we are there. The guy I was emailing back and forth with about the bracelets said he works closely with the WR and sees a few of the racers when they stop in the Philippines, so we will see.
I am also planning on doing some car washes around Vegas with friends and, church allowing, setting up a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. I figured I could make quite a bit doing those and I could also sell the bracelets and t-shirts there. I'm still debating on a t-shirt design, but that will be coming soon. A few days ago I was also sent 250 free business cards with my website on it to hand out at events and to encourage people to partner with my fundraising efforts!
Please keep me and my fellow racers in your prayers! Fundraising $15000 per person is no easy feat and absolutely impossible without God!
Thank you to everyone who has considered helping me out and I will be praying for the Lord to be working through all of these fundraising efforts. Fundraising this large sum is not just begging for donations or support, it is our ministry!
