We don’t need you. Those were one of the first things our new host said this month. But was i offended? Absolutely not. We actually prefer it when our host doesn’t need us.
They don’t NEED us. They WANT us.
They don’t NEED us in order to feed the homeless each night. They WANT us to come along side them to help and see a different side of the city we would not normally get to see. They don’t NEED us for their weekly food drop off to different schools and care facilities. They WANT us to come and experience what life is like for so many people living in and near the city. They don’t NEED us to set up the market that they put on once a month to get the money that helps run their entire operation. They WANT us to help and be a part of the family.
We don’t have to be needed or wanted. We are CALLED by God. We have been called by God to love people. We have been called by God to serve. 50 of us have been called by God to do the Race this year.
I’m so glad that I am wanted, needed, and called by God. I’m glad my hosts don’t need our team in order to function, because we won’t be here for very long. But I am so glad that they want us here this month to do life with them and help them with their ministry.
