Here in Cambodia it is the Khmer New Year and everyone is off to their home province to celebrate with their families. The 13th was the official first day of the New Year.

At the college we are staying at, most of the students have gone home as well. However, there are a few left for us to continue teaching classes and hang out with them in their free time.

On the 13th, we had finished teaching our classes and were going to search for the students to hang out with them by the beautiful lake that is right next to the school.

As we walked around outside, however, we couldn’t find anyone. Suddenly, I heard someone screaming my name. I look to see Nick with the students in a small shop/garage looking place on the other side of the campus.

It is the home of one of the church’s congregation. We have gone there several times to purchase cold drinks from them when we are tired of only drinking water.

The woman who lives there is the absolute sweetest. The students warned us that if we walk over there to purchase a drink and she and her husband are eating dinner, we better be prepared to stay and eat dinner with them.

They don’t speak any English but that has never really been a problem because a smile and a hand squeeze do better than words anyway.

Our team starts heading over to the shop and we see there are lots of chairs and food on the table. The woman had made spring rolls in honor of the New Year and truly needed help eating them! The students were also eating them but there weren’t enough students to finish all that food. Team Kerux to the rescue!

The food was delicious and I ate three of the rolls. It was so wonderful to just sit in Christian community with the woman and her family and the students. The woman was so happy to share her food with us and we were just as blessed to eat it.

The smile on this woman’s face doesn’t even begin to describe the joy that she carries. She is one of the 15 church members who faithfully attend church every Sunday that is held here at the school’s chapel.

I’m praying that 15 will be turned into 500.

After we had finished eating, we prayed for the woman and her family. Praise the Lord that we have been given so many wonderful opportunities to pray over fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who live on the other side of the world!
