Nepal has been a very interesting month. Every day ministry looked very different. It was all squad month but we spent a good part of the month not together. Still, God was moving through this country and many new friendships were formed.
Our third to last day in Nepal was probably my favorite day. It was not an adventure day. Nothing huge or crazy happened. Just so many amazing little things happened that added up to a wonderful day.
We had arrived back to Kathmandu from the jungles of Nepal at 4:45am. Instead of going to sleep (since I don’t think I got any sleep on that 20 hour bus ride) I decided to (finally) shower, do laundry, and pack. It was a very productive morning!
I was able to meet up with some amazing friends who live in Denmark but whom I had met in India 8 years ago. I had stayed with my friend named Salomi in India four years ago and then she married a man from Denmark and they moved there together. God blessed me with having us all be back in Nepal at the same time! It made my heart SO happy to see them and catch up on life.
After that, my teammate McKenzie and I went to Thamel, which is where we had stayed when we first came to Nepal. It is only a 20 minute cab ride from where we are staying in Kathmandu.
In Thamel, we stayed at a hostel and got to know the manager and the front desk workers. One of them, named Onn Ess, had all 55 members of our squad name’s memorized. He was so kind. We always enjoyed talking to him and pouring into him and the other front desk workers. When Kenzie and I went to see him this time, he had bought a bracelet for her and I. It was a simple beaded bracelet with the word “Nepal” on it. We were so touched that he was so kind and thoughtful to think of us. And he still remembered our names even though we hadn’t seen him in three weeks and a different World Race squad was staying in the hotel so he had all new names to memorize.
After that, we sat down with the manager of the hostel and he got coffee for us. We chatted with him for half an hour just talking about life and his son and his previous trekking adventures. He was so kind to our group, and we were so grateful to have gotten to know him. We took the opportunity to pray over him and his business. Even though he is Hindu, he appreciated the prayers and was so glad we came back to see him so many times.
Just those little moments that day were all so wonderful. Ministry doesn’t always have to be during ministry time. Sometimes ministry looks like pouring into people and getting to know them and building relationships. And sometimes you get to bless them and pray over them because you got to know them and invested time into them. God blessed us so much with all the people we met here. There were so many other amazing relationships that were formed during this month in Nepal. I am going to miss the people here so much.
Now were off to Vietnam!
