I have a lot of things on my bucket list. Many I have forgotten because I didn’t actually write them down. Coming on the Race, I didn’t set any expectations that I would be able to cross anything off my bucket list. I came to serve the world for a year. But sometimes, God surprises us in beautiful ways. My team and I were able to go the island of Santorini, Greece because Hillary’s dad generously offered to pay for us all to go. While there, we got to go cliff jumping! That is something that has been on my bucket list for a very long time. I had no idea I would be able to cross it off while on the Race. Especially not while in Greece which wasn’t even on our original route. There have been other cool things we have been blessed to do and see on our adventure days but one that just happened here in Bulgaria I wanted to tell you about.

Because of movies and pictures I’ve seen, I’ve always wanted to walk through a field of sunflowers. I know there is one such field back home in Wisconsin but it is far from where I live, and I don’t even know when sunflowers are exactly in season.

While headed to our adventure day, we passed many fields of sunflowers. It was amazing and took my breathe away. I had forgotten my dream of being able to walk through a field of them. When my teammate asked the driver to stop and take a picture, my heart leaped out of my chest. I couldn’t believe I was actually getting this opportunity. The field was beautiful. Even better with mountains in the background.

Such a simple wish – to walk through a field of flowers. But God hears all our prayers. He knows all of our dreams. Even the ones that we have forgotten about. How amazing is our Creator to make such beauty and allow me to enjoy it? It was a very fun adventure day exploring a cave and seeing a traditional Bulgarian village. But I’ll definitely be thinking about the tiny blessing that God gave me before the day even started.
