This month we are in a small village called Dobromirka, Bulgaria! There is basically nothing and no one in this village, which makes it amazing! A complete 180 from living in Athens, Greece. Bulgaria isn’t far from Greece though….it is a very big country nestled right in Eastern Europe!
We are living in a big building with three stories and lots of empty rooms, a huge kitchen, and a dining area. Our team and team Uplift (who we are partnering with this month) has taken over the top floor and it feels just like living at camp! Which makes sense because our first week of being here there was a camp going on. The kids ranged from ages 5-15 years old. This was a Christian camp with worship sessions and Bible study. The front lawn has a volleyball net where the kids would often play. We set up our hammocks off to the side of the yard in a small clump of trees for some shade and good quiet times with Jesus while the kids played.
Our job for the first week has been to help in the kitchen. We have been helping the four sweetest ladies in the world cook for all 50 children and staff at the camp. I’m not a very good cook just on my own, but I love prep work in a kitchen. I think it is because I worked at Culver’s (a fast food burger place in Wisconsin) for so many years! (7 to be exact). Cutting veggies, doing dishes, and serving food is definitely all things I do best. I loved working in this kitchen. It was tiring work too! Standing on my feet for 7 hours straight! It has been awhile since I have done that. Almost made me miss the shoes I had to wear at Culvers because they had good arch support ??

The four amazing women we worked with are named Maria, Danny, Irina, and Emmy who is married to Valentine. The first three ladies are only here part time, to help out with the camps. Emmy and Val live here permanently and are basically full-time missionaries. They live in this village and in this building that we are staying in for this month. They host different conferences and camps here throughout the year and do whatever God leads them to do. They are all the sweetest people in the world and we are so blessed to be here this month!
