My old teammate Linsey encouraged me to write a list of some sort with 25 things now that I am 25. So this is my list of 25 somethings that I have gained while on the Race.
- I can brush my teeth without wetting the toothbrush first
- I can fall asleep without a blanket on me (literally never thought I could before the Race, but you have to when it’s 106 degrees and 96% humidity)
- I can wear the same shirt three days in a row
- I can go 9 days without showering (baby wipes only)
- I can go to the bathroom without having a toilet
- I can figure out how to travel between cities on 3 continents
- I can cook lasagna
- I can sleep on almost any type of bed
- I don’t mind using a towel for my shower after someone else has just used it
- I don’t mind biting off the same burger with friends or strangers
- I can go for a run in my Chacos (type of sandals)
- I can live without makeup
- I can travel with 9 snowglobes in my backpack and not break any of them
- I can make friends with almost anyone just by using hand gestures
- I can make cookies with ingredients that are not labeled in my native tongue
- I can live without wifi everyday
- I can live without conditioning my hair or using facewash or face lotion
- I can give a speech/preach in front of anyone without any preparation
- I can cross off several wonders of the world off my bucket list
- I can convert 11 different currencies in my head while holding at least 4 in my wallet at all times
- I can eat whatever is put in front of me, whether that is dog or tarantula
- I can teach English to non-native speakers without any training
- I can live almost anywhere, whether I have a bed or running water or not
- I don’t mind looking out of place around the world with my World Race clothes and different colored skin
- I can carry two backpacks across international borders without getting lost
There you have it. 25 things I can now do because of being on the World Race. There is definitely a lot more but that’s all I have for now!
