This country is amazing so I wanted to share my top ten favorite things about this incredible place!
1. The beach – only a five minute walk away and it is absolutely beautiful. Pretty self-explanatory.
2. The weather – we have come at the perfect time to Vietnam. It is a bit too warm for most of my teammates but I am in heaven. Although the humidity could go down just a little bit.
3. The people – I have met so many amazing people in this country! Everyone is so kind, whether they are a stranger or a friend. Even the people working and living at the hostel with us are great as well.
4. The language – Although I cannot understand it, the sound of it is delightful to listen to.
5. The city of Da Nang – It is a beautiful city that is very full of life. Every step you take along the street has so much for you to see. The Dragon Bridge, the ferris wheel at Asia Park, the food stands, the big hotels, the seafood swimming in buckets along the street.
6. The safety – Coming from India and Nepal, it is nice to finally feel safe again. Because we are in a tourist area, we are able to walk around freely without needing to have a male with us. So often in America we take for granted the ability to walk around alone. I am grateful to have a taste of American safety again.
7. The landscape – Beach to mountains to city. It is amazing that I can play on the beach and then take a short drive to hike up a mountain. And then come right back to the city to eat dinner that is right outside my front door.
8. The price – Everything is so cheap! I love that I can get my meals for under $1 USD.
9. The food – So delicious. Although a lot of the food is very similar (rice noodles with ___) I LOVE it. I have never had Vietnamese food before coming here but now I hope I can find lots of it back home!
10. The coffee – Vietnamese coffee is unlike any I have tasted before. It is iced and comes in a rather small cup. I usually like plain, black coffee but this coffee has won me over. It is made with condensed milk and sugar and tastes AMAZING. Seriously, America, you have some competition.
