I’m a Survivor!!!
For the past three weeks I have been living in the Malaysia jungle with the Orang Asli, indigenous
people, of Malaysia. We were ~2.5 hours Northeast of Kuala Lumpur
(capital city).
Our ministry was to serve, love, and build relationships
with the people in Bertong
Village. Communication was very interesting as they
didn’t speak English, we didn’t speak Malay and there was NO translator except
for a few days. It felt like I was
playing one big giant game of pictionary or charades.
I had a definite Love/Hate relationship with the jungle.
I LOVED swimming with the little kids.
I HATED the hot weather and bathing in the river.
I LOVED reading the bible to the little kids.
I HATED not knowing if they understood or not being able to
talk to them and truly share some of my favorite Bible stories.
I LOVED helping the women cook the food.
I HATED eating rice at every meal.
I LOVED praying for the people.
I HATED not knowing what specifically to pray for.
I LOVED working with the men (ex: logging and building chalets).
I HATED the bugs, thorned trees, and being sore.
Overall, I HATED being hot, sweaty, stinky, and tired, but I
LOVED all of the relationship that were built and being able to show love
through my actions. I wouldn’t change this experience for anything and this was
the best month for me by far. Go figure!

St.
Francis of Assisi
once said, “Share the love of Jesus Christ at all times, and if necessary,
use words.”
This
month I definitely learned the significance of how your actions truly do speak
louder than your words. God has
definitely been teaching me how to love others without saying it but by showing
it and I am finally understanding how this is possible.
1
Thessalonians 3:12 – “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for
each other and for everyone else.”
