The other day in my quiet time God laid something on my
heart that I wanted to share with you guys.
Please read 1 Kings 3: 5-15.
Solomon is now the king of Israel and God comes to him in a
dream and says, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” In verse 9 Solomon asks for a “discerning
heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.”
Solomon’s answer pleased the Lord so God granted him what he asked for and also
gave him wealth and honor and long life.
My question is this. If God came
to you and told you that you could ask for anything and he would give it to
you, what would you ask for?
After a few days of thinking I have decided that I would ask
God for a supernatural and unconditional love for others. It is easy to love some people and harder to
love others but I believe that LOVE is the first
and most important quality to possess.
Below are some of many verses that talk about the importance of loving
God and others.
Deut 11:22 – love the Lord your God
Lev 19:18 – love your neighbor as yourself
Matt 5:44 – Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
Matt 19:19 –
honor your father and mother, and love your
neighbor as yourself.
Matt 22:37 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and
mind.
Luke 6:32 – If
you love those who love
you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love
those who love them.
John 13:34 – Love one another. As I have loved
you, so you must love one another.
John 15:17 – This is my command: Love each
other.
Romans 12:10 – Be
devoted to one another in love. Honor one
another above yourself.
1 Cor 13:4-8, 13
– Love is patient, love
is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not
dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres. Love never fails. . . And now
these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Gal 5:13 – serve
one another humbly in love.
Gal 5:22 – the
fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
1 Pet 4:8 – Above
all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Jn 4:19 – We love because he first loved us.
These are just a few of many verses in the Bible that talk
about love.
So, if you could ask God for anything . . . What would YOU
ask Him for?
