“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
– Matthew 6:33
This has been my verse recently.
This month has given me the opportunity to be still. It's given me time. Time to think and pray more than I have been able to the past couple of months. This time has been such a gift, but with it came a flood of thoughts that I have not had the chance to focus on. I was quickly confronted with a string of ideas, desires, questions, worries and dreams. My first week here, I got overwhelmed.
Overwhelmed with the desire to grow throughout the rest of my Race and soak up this experience.
Overwhelmed with anticipation about life after the Race.
Overwhelmed with wanting to seek after what the Lord has for me, but not knowing how.
The past few weeks I have prayed for…
- Change for the desperation that I have seen in the world
- Grace as I continue to learn about leadership
- Discernment when talking to and praying for people
- Wisdom when making hard decisions
- Unity for this team that I’m with this month
- Unity for our squad
- Direction in my day
- Direction for life after the WR
- Trust for my future
- Peace in my friendships
- An appreciation for the amazing experiences that I’m living
- Protection for the people that I love
- Patience
- Adventure
- Joy and laughter
- Strength and energy
- Boldness and courage
- Endurance to keep loving
- Thankfulness
I was caught up in a whirlwind and had forgotten how to access my anchor. I had forgotten to seek God first. Forgotten that even though the bullet-points on my list held good ambitions, they shouldn't be my priority. Forgotten that I shouldn't strive for anything, but instead spend time with my Father.
As I started to choose to look to the Lord before my list, I began to remember and believe that all these things will be added to me.
God is teaching me that it’s more simple than I’m making it.
He is teaching me to let go.
To not be anxious.
To seek him first.
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Seek me first.
Lord, how do I lead? How do I love? What do you want me to say and do?
Seek me and my kingdom first.
God, where I am supposed to go after the WR?
Seek me first.
Father, how do I trust you with my future, my hopes, my dreams?
Seek first my righteousness.
Jesus, how do I hear you, obey you, receive your grace, love, joy, peace, patience?
Seek me.
Seek me and all of these things will be added to you.
