My home for WR month three is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. As the train pulled up to our stop and the doors opened, my group and I almost couldn’t move as we tried to take in the amazing beauty of Muizenburg. We are so blessed to be here. I love the ocean! And these beaches are some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen. I really think I could live here.

Our ministry this month is working with our contact, Malcolm, in a few different areas surrounding Muizenburg. People in this area are either very wealthy or extremely poor. There are communities called townships that are basically a collection of shacks made out of random materials. Malcolm has connections with a township called Phumlani and this is one of the main focuses of this month. We walk around the community, trying to get to know some of the people, praying for them, telling them about the Lord. We also work with New Chapter, Malcolm’s after school program for the kids in this community. We play games, try to teach a lesson through projects, sing songs, and just love on these kids.
Our other ministry focus is working with Camp Joy, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. There are about 40 men and 10 women in this center, going through a six week program. The first day we went there, I felt connected to these people. It was crazy. Devon, the director, had us all go around the room and do some icebreakers. We heard some of their stories. We shared some stories from our own lives. We played some hilarious games. By the end of the first day, we all felt like we were friends. Getting to go over there and spend time with them every day has been a highlight of the month for me.
Between these two awesome ministries and the amazing beauty all around me, I am in love with Cape Town. I walked down to the ocean the other day, about a five minute walk from our campground. I sat there and looked at the ocean like I used to at home, this time on the other side of the Atlantic, and just thanked God again. From the mountains of last month to the ocean this month, I feel so blessed.
This song has been my theme song this month. By my amazingly talented friends, the Hunts, here is “Lifting the Sea.”
