In Joshua 1:9, God says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
This year, I will be graduating from high school, and for the past few years I have been feeling a calling to continue in ministry through missions after graduation. In response to that call, I will be participating in a 9-month mission trip called The World Race Gap Year.
The World Race is a program sponsored through an organization called Adventures in Missions based out of Georgia. Beginning in August of 2016, I will be serving in Guatemala which has suffered civil war, corruption and social inequality. After Guatemala, my team and I will fly to Lesotho. Lesotho is a small independent country that is completely landlocked by South Africa. Lesotho also has the third highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world, and it is estimated that the disease affects one in four people in the country. Then, we will be traveling to Cambodia. In the 1970’s, this country suffered a mass genocide which killed approximately 1.5 million people. Cambodia is also a major transit point and destination for human trafficking. The types of service we will be doing will vary depending on the needs of the country at that time. Typical service projects can range from construction, to working in orphanages and schools, to partnering with local churches. My team and I will be serving in each country for 3 months.
As I begin this journey, I am asking that you prayerfully consider supporting me in this opportunity. In addition, you will be supporting my team, The World Race program, and the people of these countries. I’m asking that you be in prayer for me, my future teammates, and the countries in which we will be serving.
I am also asking for your support financially. If you choose to write a check, please make the check payable to Adventures in Missions with my name on the memo line, complete the enclosed donation card and return it in the postage paid envelope. If you would like to donate online, you can go to www.emilywestbrook.theworldrace.org. I invite you to follow my journey; this link is also a blog where I will be posting about my fundraising progress, preparation for the trip, and my experiences while in the mission field.
Thank you for your support.
Love,
Emily Westbrook
