I’m Emily Werness and today is my last day in Rosemount for awhile. So many thoughts and emotions are flowing through me that it is nearly impossible to put them all into words. BUT, what better way to pack and launch than with the Les Mis soundtrack in the background?! “One day more; I did not pack until today. How can I live without my coffee? One day more. On Tuesday I’ll be worlds away, but know I love you all to pieces!”
I can’t believe this day is actually here!! So much preparation and waiting has led to this. And let me tell you, this past week has flown by and packing your life in a 60L pack for 11 months is actually as hard, if not harder, than you might think! Believe it or not, I have managed to fit everything into my pack and daypack – praise the Lord! Below is a glimpse at what is making the journey:
BEFORE
AFTER
Most people bring a few key comfort items that make them feel more at home or beautiful. Mine are a flannel shirt and two bottles of nail polish!
The most popular question I have gotten this week is, “Are you excited?!” Obvious answer: YES! I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for L Squad over the next 11 months of our lives. I am excited to get out of this waiting/prep mode and actually get going and live the Race! I am excited to get to know my squad and my team on a deeper level and do life with them – the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am so excited to seek out what it looks like to be a part of international ministry and what it means to love like Christ – what does this look like on a daily basis?
It is a bittersweet time as well – goodbyes/see ya laters – no matter what you call them it doesn’t make them any easier. I will miss out on some life changes in the lives of those I love in the next 11 months, but I rest in the fact that God has me where he wants me so why would I want to be anywhere else?
I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey so far. I would not be where I am without your steadfast encouragement, wisdom, prayers, and financial support. Because of all of you this is a reality. I am getting on a plane to Atlanta tomorrow and boarding another to Cambodia on Tuesday because of all of you and our great God. Thank you. You all are just as much a part of this as I am!
The second most popular question is, “How can I reach you?!” Here’s your answer:

To all of you who remain Stateside on this journey: “May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” -Numbers 6:24-26
And my addition: may you always love Jesus first – above all else.
I love you all. Let’s do this.
