As you know, I am a senior this year with future plans of pursuing a nursing degree with a minor in missions, but instead of going to college next year like most seniors do, I am planning on going on a nine month mission trip called the Gap Year. God has the ability to call us to do amazing things. Recently, I have felt God calling me to go on a crazy adventure. While on this trip, I will spend three months in three different countries: Guatemala, Cambodia, and Lesotho. However, this trip is not something that I can do on my own. It will be a very challenging trip, so therefore, I am in need of support. I would like to ask you to accompany me on this journey by praying for not only me, but my squad members and the natives of each country I will be visiting. God is at work in me, and I would like you to be a part of what he is doing inside of me.

I have always had a passion for mission work, however, my passion has never led me to do something as challenging as this before. I have prayed long and hard about whether or not this is what God is calling me to do. But I believe, after examining my passions and past experiences, that this is the path that God has laid before me. There is something about immersing myself in poverty, despair, and desolation that creates a sense of urgency. People all around the world have been blinded by the false teachings of their societies, and I have a desire to open their eyes to the truth with the help of God. To me, this is more than another mission trip, it is an opportunity to challenge my faith in new ways and discover who God has called me to be all while spreading his love to those who have been unexposed to it.

This trip is about more than just helping the poor. This is an undeniably significant portion of the trip, but beyond that, it is about discovery. Through this trip I pray that God reveals to me his purpose for my life. I hope that I can discover how a small town girl from the Midwest can make a difference in the world. But, as mentioned before, this is not something that I can do on my own. Along with prayer support, there are financial needs that must be met. After careful consideration and time spent in prayer talking to God, if you feel led to support me through this you can go to my blog at emilyweeks.theworldrace.org and hit Support Me to make your online donation. If you’d like to send a personal check, please email Kurt Weeks at [email protected] for payment details. If you believe that God is calling you to provide support in other ways, I would still like to invite you to check out my blog listed above to get updates and prayer requests. Feel free to contact me with any questions, I would be more than willing to explain more about what God is leading me to do this coming year with you. This is not something that I am able to do alone, but with the help of God and support in a variety of ways, I strongly believe that this trip has the power to change not only my life, but all who are involved.

Serving with courage,

Emily Weeks
