I can’t believe it’s already month 5 and I squad is now in the Philippines! After a 6 hour shift in the nursery at the orphanage I am now relaxing on the balcony at our ministry base overlooking the entire city of Manila. It’s only been 4 days since we started ministry here but I’m already settled and completely content if not fallen in love with what Gods doing here.
Our contact Jeff Long as an amazing ministry here that him and his wife set up when they moved to the Philippines 20 some years ago. Here are some of the ways that God has used Jeff to pursue His loved ones.
-
The Children’s Home
An orphanage that houses, feeds, & teaches 38 orphans -
The Birthing Clinic
Pregnant women receive pre-natal care & emotional/spiritual support. -
Girls Home
Home for teenage girls who have been abused, neglected or orphaned. -
Street Kid Ministry
Forming relationships with kids on the street through sport ministry -
Feedings
Twice a day kids in a poor community are fed. -
Ravine Community Outreach (new ministry)
Forming friendships with families living in the ravine, finding out their greatest needs and praying with them. By finding out this information Jeff can figure out how to best help these people with the resources he’s been given. -
Red Light District
Buying the time of the women in the red light district just to chat and hangout with them, treating them in a way that shows their worth and telling them about Jesus.
Those are just some of the few!! Because the ministry is so diverse here Jeff has been able to employ many of the locals. Some of the women were taught aesthetics. They now work here at the base at a salon/spa that was constructed. Not only does this provide a way out of prostitution but also provides a safe working place, surrounding them with people who love Jesus and share Him with them. Who knew that getting your nails done could be “suffering for the Gospel” as Jeff likes to call it 😉
Yes, it took years to build a ministry like this one but all Jeff had to do was be obedient. All he had to do was say YES. God said go and he went. And now…
Hungry mouths are being fed
Children are kept safe
Women are given an alternative to prostitution
Babies are being born healthy
Disciples are being made
And God is being worshipped
I can’t wait to write more about the ministries above because it truly has been an amazing experience even after only a few days.
*Please keep in mind to pray for my teammate Laine. She has a respiratory infection and is very dehydrated. We were able to get her to a hospital yesterday and get her medication. Please pray for a quick recovery!
Thank you!
God is good.
