It’s only been a week but Swaziland has probably been one of my favorite months. Sugar cane fields and mountains surround us.
In the morning we all go out into the garden to weed for 2.5hrs. We’re preparing the garden so that people in the community can rent out plots to plant and harvest their own vegetables. Without the donations that came from America they would not have been able to do this. You see, in the past 10 years there has been very low rainfall and so the people cannot simply rely on rain to grow their crops. An irrigation system is needed but no one here can afford one. Thanks to donations from back home AIM was able to provide a drip irrigation system for the garden we are now weeding in.
In the afternoon we split up in small groups and head out to either do ‘home visits’ or to ‘care points’. Care points are where the children are fed and taught bible lessons. Home visits are exactly as they sound. We visit people in their homes, encouraging them in prayer and sharing scripture.
The other day had the privilege of doing three home visits. The first lady was a double amputee.
She had no legs
She got around in a very old looking wheelchair
She lived in a mud house.
And she LOVED Jesus.
How can she be so happy in the midst of her circumstances? See…. The world has taught us that our happiness is based around our circumstances. There are so many things we think we need to be happy. Even reasonable things like family and friends. No doubt that God blesses us with those things to help us through our life but the Bible promises us an unexplainable peace and joy that comes from knowing the Lord.
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
It’s totally unexplainable, it doesn’t make sense, it might look crazy, but it’s real.
I’ve seen it
&
I’ve felt it.
The love of God is something so good I can’t even put it into words. It’s that feeling inside of you that there’s something bigger – something better. It’s what makes you cry out to God in your darkest days even if you don’t believe in Him. It’s what makes you question who you are and what you were made for. God created your heart so why would it not long for Him?
The Lord is righteous in all his ways
And kind in all his works.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
He also hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord preserves all who love him,
But all the wicked he will destroy
Psalm 145: 17-19
