Last month in Kenya our team decided that since we’re going to be missing out on having a World Race Christmas, we would have our own in July. All week during team time each night we did a Christmas themed activity. When our official Christmas Day came along, we did a Secret Santa gift exchange with a 400 Kenyan Shilling budget (approximately $4.50 USD), cooked an amazing meal that was entirely ugali and goat meat free, listened to Christmas carols, and read the Christmas story. In true T.I.A. (This Is Africa) style, the rolling blackouts of Kenya were in full effect, so the entire party was in the pitch dark with a kerosene lantern and some trusty REI headlamps. It was a really fun time, and it made us all very excited for getting home and celebrating actual Christmas with all our families and friends. Here is the video we made of our celebration…World Race Christmas presents can be a bit on the odd side. Enjoy!
