Been in a village neighboring Coban, Guatemala for 8 days. And if I ever had a picture of what the world race would look like, this would be it:
-Sleeping in a shack, using our tents to escape the rats and bugs.
-Having to hike about 30 minutes to do anything; including showering at the community showering hole. (Which I have yet to do……)
-Our bathroom being a ten foot hole in the ground with a wooden box over it surrounded by a black tarp.
-Having two translators per one service because the natives speak an indigenous language…… (Keck-chi)
-Throw in a few ducks, hens, roosters, dogs, goats, and turkeys.
-and waking up every morning to see an amazing view of the mountainside while your talking with Jesus.
This month is just getting started and I'm already covered in bug bites, haven't showered in a week, I'm burnt, and hungry all the time…… but I couldn't think of a place I'd rather be. I'm surrounded by beautiful people who don't have anything but Christ to sustain them. If anything they are ministering to me, rather than the opposite.
Next week ill be writing about our ministry and what that looks like for my team and I.
Pictures coming soon, meanwhile check out jonathangarner.theworldrace.org, my team leader. His pictures put into perspective of what life is really like.
Bam!
