They don't look like me.
They don't talk like me.
They don't always see things the same way as I do.
But….. We are family.

No, not my blood family in North Carolina.
~Although I miss them so much~
I'm talking about Team R.O.A.R.

Rivers Of Abundant Reconciliation

Over the past four months, I have come to know and care for the members on this team far past a surface level relationship. They are no longer a "group of pople who I came on a mission trip with", they have become so much more. They have been my shoulder to cry on (quite often), a listening ear when my emotions get the best of me, an encouraging voice to speak life into my life, a safe place for me to be vulnerable. It has been an honor working, ministering, and living life with them……they are my family.
We are family.

Sure,
they get on my nerves.
Sure,
they can be loud.
Sure,
they can be rude,
smell,
forgetful,
stubborn,
defensve,
messy.

But…..

We are family. And that ain't changing.

Jon Jon,

Our front man, our "big idea" guy, our mouth, and the pain in our butt.

He has lead our team with courage and endurance for the past four months. I've come to really enjoy my time getting to know him and his heart. And trying to figure him out is a fun game, because les-be-honest folks….he is a little out there.

He has an alter ego ~Sassy Jonathan~ who, I have come to appreciate and welcome. And when she comes out, I know there is no turning back….. I prepare myself for a time of laughter and joy.

Jonathan brings joy.
He brings life.
He has a cool hispter haircut. (Hair credit to Myself)
He is a very talented photographer, and videographer.
His love and skill for soccer can't go unnoticed.
Jonathan has a terrible case of Little-brother-itis, which causes him to become a huge pain in our butts by mocking us with obnoxious voices, random pranks, and the always annoying mocking game. Where it doesn't matter what you say, he will mock you. He becomes he little brother. But, we love him all the more. He is our pain, and we wouldn't trade him for anything.

And most importantly, Jonathan is a man after God's heart, and that is beautiful.

He is our fearless leader!
Jonathan Garner.

Mama Misco!

"Wait!"
"Watch your step!"
"What is that??!!"
"Did you put sunscreen on?
"Don't do that!"
"Inappropriate!"
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Our team mom and personal siren. If there is ANY POSSIBLE danger…. Mama Misco is on top of it and let's everyone know it. She has a heart full of compassion and love for her team.

A mama's girl, like me.  She loves to snuggle and love people.  Her weezy laugh sends us all into laughter.  She keeps us on our toes with her witty humor.  Never a dull moment in her presence.  She is defiantly our comic relief.  She speaks fluently in sarcasm, and is stubborn as a mule. But, under her tough shell is a woman who is passionate and caring for those who are hurting and broken.  If there is a baby within a five mile radius, you can best believe Misco will find it.  She likes milking cows and other utter present animals.  And with seven tacos in ten minutes, she is the Chris Scott Annual Taco Eating Contest Champion.  Originally Emma was suppose to be on another team, and although it's sad that they had to be separated at the beginning of the race…..I couldn't I imagine team ROAR without her. I'm glad to call her my sister and friend. You my snuggle bug Misco!

Chelsea Gottman

She is the extrovert version of myself.
She is loud.
She is BOLD.
She is fun.
She is creative.
She is beautiful.

She is Chelsea Gottman.
My sister. My friend.
She can be forgetful and slow at times.
And tends to always leave her water bottle behind.

She walks with her head always up, always exploring, always curious.
She finds joy in the smallest of things.

She is a worshiper.
Her voice is a powerful weapon in the spirit realm.
She sings and changes the atmosphere.
She is a woman who is in love with her Creator.

She is our Flower Child.
She is ……Chelsea Gottman

Bug Boy!

A nickname that he had growing up that we ran across on Facebook. And as a team, we haven’t been able to let go.
He is an observer.
He is buggish.
He is tedious in his eating, always making sure to get all he can out of that meal.

He is one who weighs out the benefits and risks in a situation.
He is a simple man with his zip off pants and T-shirts.
Being timely and having things in order are his specialty.
The man with a plan. The man with the money.
He is our excellent treasurer.

He is a man with few words, but is loud in his actions.
A man with great integrity and honor.
A man whose desire is to grow in Christ daily.

He is passionate and driven.
He surprises me all the time. I am constantly learning new things about him.
And not to mention, his big burly beard.

He is my brother from another mother. He is a man who I look up too.
Josh for short, bug boy for fun.

Emily #2
Peterson/Peter/Petey

She reminds me of the really cool relative who does a lot of traveling, who you only see like once a year but who brings really awesome gifts!

She has no middle name. Which is pretty cool.
She is a guitarist, songwriter, singer, worship leader, prayer warrior, and my travel dictionary.

A woman who speaks beyond her years.
A dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
She brings forth truth.

A selfless servant to those around her.
She walks in wisdom and understanding.
And when she speaks, everyone listens.

We have been informed about her “prestigious” school and her really smart classmates who… “work at NASA” and “are helping cure cancer”. And we will never let her forget it.

She loves Oreos and really everything about the country of Turkey.
Enjoys a good game of Ultimate Frisbee.
And does this weird thing with her hands when she is thinking.

Don’t think I have ever seen her cry (I do enough for the both of us)
I am encouraged to grow just by seeing the Christ like qualities in her.
And I am honored to be her sister and friend.

Emily Peterson.

Chaney Bird,

You know the saying big things come in small packages? Meet Chaney. She is tiny like a humming bird, but has the roar of a lion. She is the little engine that could. A woman of humbleness and great authority.

She’s not afraid to say the hard things that we as a team would probably sweep under the rug to avoid tension. She causes us to grow, and it’s awesome.
She brings peace.
I am reminded of what Matthew 5:5 says, “The meek will inherit the earth…”

So Chaney Bird, be prepared!
She has the fear of the Lord in her.
A woman of His Word.

Chaney teaches me through her actions. She is one who chooses to be behind the scenes and do the dirty work.
She does the job that everyone hates… Dishes.
She is a crier, like me. And is emotional when things stress her out, but is very open and vulnerable with us to help her overcome her frustrations.

She is very persistent in keeping her body healthy and in good shape, not like me.
But keeps me in check and gives me a model of what self discipline looks like.
A coffee lover, and tends to turn into this raging energizer bunny after a few cups. And that’s when things get really interesting.

She is our Chaney Bird.
