Today’s post is something a little different. Today I want to piggy back off of a subject my pastor talked about a few weeks ago.

“GOALS”.

So most of us have heard about this word in some way or another. Whether we’ve seen it on social media or used it ourselves. This new social media trend is becoming much more of a daily ritual. For those of you unaware of what the term “GOALS” means here’s a simple explanation. When an individual sees or hears about something that they would like to have in their future they simply say “GOALS”. But most individuals use it in terms of materialistic goods or looks. For example, it’s common to see young girls comment “GOALS” on the bottom of Kylie Jenner’s Instagram photos.

Now some might not see this as a large issue. And it’s not the act of saying it that’s the issue. It’s the mindset that comes along with it. No one should be comparing themselves to individuals that are 1. Most likely at a different stage in life and 2. Have a completely different background, story and purpose. It hurts my heart to see people compare themselves. God has designed every person for a specific purpose and reason. Every quality is unique and hand crafted. Now I’m not saying you can’t  have goals but your “GOALS” should be to look, act, or live exactly the same way as someone else.

A few weeks back my pastor introduced the idea of eulogy values. The idea that at the end of your days people will have values to write a eulogy about. As much as we hate to think about it, at the end of our days God will call us home. Where we will live in his kingdom forever. But there will come a time when our short life on this earth will come to an end.

God gave us the chance to make a difference and Jesus gave us the chance to make mistakes. So when given that opportunity how will we use it?

I hope people understand that God never measures their life on whether they were “GOALS” or not. Jesus doesn’t care. He will love you and seek to fill your soul no matter who you are or what your bank account looks like. But if there is one thing I have learned within these past few weeks it is this: God grants us one life, just one short life. He never tells us when it ends. It could be tomorrow. It could be today. But for now, in this moment, I don’t want to live for anything other than his love. Because when my time comes around I hope I have eulogy values.

God bless,
Emily
