Maybe you’re wondering if the World Race is right for you. Maybe a friend or pastor told you to look into it and you’re not sure what all the hype is about. Or maybe you’ve just been reading my blogs and are curious if this could be for you too. Well, here is my list of pros for you to consider.
Abandonment
Walking away from every familiarity and comfort of home gives you an opportunity to trust and rely on God. You may not have internet constantly at your fingertips, so spend time getting to know the people around you. You may not eat food that you like, you may also experience hunger, but you realize that you will be okay
If abandonment seems like a negative to you then I definitely invite you to discover that God can satisfy beyond any earthly comfort.
Team
You travel with a community of believers of all different backgrounds. Every team member has something to offer, we spend time every day encouraging and challenging each other to grow in our potential. It is amazing to see that God can take that team and unite you for the same purpose, to glorify Him.
Culture
Of course you would experience culture while traveling the world, but why is that so important? It allows you to see people as people and to embrace new ideas about how to simply do life. From using a bidet, to eating noodles for every meal, to embracing a bow as your greeting, you realize that the way you have always done things isn’t the only right way.
Fundraising
I know that if you are considering the World Race this is a great reason to say no, but fundraising isn’t as bad as you think. It gives you an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with friends, family members and even strangers, about why you are doing what you are doing. I believe it is a great way to inspire and encourage other to trust God, even for our daily bread.
Intimacy
It was a personal choice for me to pursue intimacy with God while on the race and my team as has encouraged and come alongside me in that pursuit. Because of the continual change, uncomfortable situations, new friendships and many other factors there are moments when you just need someone constant. That is when I have been reminded that God is the only one in my life who will always be constant, and in these moments I have grown closer to Him.
WR staff reiterated to us at training camp, “this is your race” and as with anything in life it is your choice to make the best of any place that God has brought you to. So take ownership and get ready to experience life in a new way.
