“So, what’re you doing after the Race?”
This is such a great question that I have been asked numerous times recently. Well, I am so excited to finally announce what is coming up next for me after I get home from the Race. If you have been visiting my blog at all recently you may have noticed that all the green from my fundraising bar has been drained to the left and there is a new amount of money to be raised. Here’s why…
Currently, I am in Honduras and in July we will travel to Nicaragua for one more month of ministry; I will then head home (fly into Houston) on July 24th. It is surreal that it is ending so soon; this year just flew by and I cannot believe I will be in America so soon. But I won’t be home too long because in October I will be launching with another squad as their alumni squad leader.
What is an alumni squad leader?
Every squad that launches is sent out with 2-3 alumni squad leaders for the first 5 months of their Race. The purpose of an alumni squad leader is to help set the purpose and tone for a squad. All alumni squad leaders have been on the Race previously and are able to walk the squad through the hard, good, ugly and beautiful of the beginning of their Race.
Why am I alumni squad leading?
Let me first start by saying this was not an easy decision whatsoever. I miss my family and I know they miss me dearly and are so ready for me to come home. But when this opportunity was presented to me three months ago, I clearly heard the Lord telling me this was my next step. I have loved being put into the position of squad leader and being able to walk with people through the hard, lead through example, and still being able to do the Lord’s work. I will be doing this with alumni squad leading but my ministry will be more focused on my squad and discipling them in their first months. The first few months away from home are always hardest and figuring out the Race can be so difficult, I am so excited to walk with people through that time.
What about long term?
Before I came on the Race I was confident that I would go back to my normal life after I got home, but after what I have experienced and seen there’s no way I can come back the same. This does not mean that I will keep going back on the field for the rest of my life, I feel the Lord is calling me to this for a season and I will come home from this and teach and eventually settle down and start a family. I know this also may look like I am running away from the real world or avoiding my future, but this is not the case. I love my life back home and I know will need to change a few things when I get there (dig more into community, find a job that doesn’t take everything out of me, maybe move out of my mom’s house….) but in no way am I running away from that. So, I wish I could give an exact answer of what my life will look like after I alumni squad lead, but I do not know that yet. What I do I know is the Lord is calling me to missions over seas in this season.
I will be leaving in October and leading with a close friend from my squad, Haley. We will be leading the first 5 months with the squad and we will be going to Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Zimbabwe. I will be coming home at the end of February 2017. I am needing to raise $6,500 for my trip so if you feel called to support me financially you can donate using the above link on my blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to read all my blogs, praying for me and my family, messaging me, and loving me.
