My sweet baby girl, Fame in Thailand.

Lice is a real thing on the Race; it’s rampant and no girl usually comes out of the 11 months unscathed. If you do orphan ministry just expect to be checking each others hair every night for at least a month. No lie, a girl on my squad had lice for 3 months straight. It’s a battle ground out here.

My month in Thailand we worked in an orphanage called Sila Home for abandoned, poor, or underprivileged children. The first night we were playing with the kids and ended the night in a circle to pray over the home. The girl sitting next to me tested me out then laid her head on my thigh. I began by scratching her back; then running my fingers through her hair, I looked down at her scalp and saw them… Lice and she was infested.

I quickly fell in love and lost all cautiousness of the bugs crawling around in her head. Lice spread and they spread fast but I didn’t care; I saw past Fame’s infestation and loved her for her, bugs and all. She is a beautiful quirky girl who was flawless to me, and God gave me a beautiful picture of how He sees us.

He doesn’t look at us and see black spots from all our sin and shame. No, He looks at us and delights; the Lord sees radiant and pure children whom He delights in. My Father is able to see beyond my many years of mistakes and see a daughter who He calls whole and holy.

So just as the Lord sees past my sin, I looked beyond the lice… and fell in love.

Also, if you were wondering, yes I did get lice. But praise for genetics and my moms thin hair. It only took one day for my sweet fellow squad leads to pick out every nit. #isurvived
