This Sunday near the end of the service one of our ministry contacts (who was also preaching) began talking about missionaries. He called out my team by name and said these are missionaries. He then pointed to the audience and told them, they could be missionaries too, right where they’re living. He said if any of them were wanting prayer to come and ask US (my team) for prayer.

PAUSE.

Let’s remember. I am in Costa Rica. A Spanish speaking country. I just got on the field a week before. And that week all we had done was construction. Not much relational things and the pastor was telling the church congregation to come and ask ME for prayer.

So my team and I looked at each other as people started coming up. My ministry contact pointed to me and told me to walk through the congregation and make sure everyone in line was getting prayed for too. Yes, there was a line. So I went praying. In English. Each prayer would start with a simple arm squeeze so they knew I was praying for them and ended with a loud, “AMEN” so they knew I was done. I was nearing the back of the sanctuary, and didn’t see anyone else when an elderly man grabbed my arm and pulled me into the row where his wife was sitting. He nodded his head at me to pray and then bowed his head. I leaned down and grabbed his wife’s hand and she held on with both of her hands as tight as she could. The husband then put his arm around me and laid his head on my shoulder.

PAUSE

A man wanted ME, asked ME, pulled ME over to pray for HIM and HIS wife. Who am I to pray for them? Who am I to be traveling to another country and sharing the love of Christ. Who am I?!

I prayed over this couple and just cried. Humbled. Utterly humbled by the opportunity to be on such an amazing mission trip. I’m standing in a church the size of my basement in Costa Rica only one week into a nine month trip and I couldn’t be more thankful. Thankful that God would choose me. Thankful for the many, many people in my life that have supported me. Thankful for amazing hosts and my new family.

THANK YOU.

Thank you for all who have supported me and gotten me this far. It wasn’t till this service that it all hit me. So thank you all for getting me here.
